Chris Artley of New Zealand wins 2012 composition contest

Chris Artley of New Zealand was the winner of the Lutheran Youth Choir’s 2012 International Choral Composition Contest for his anthem Psalm 23, scored for accompanied SATB choir.

Recipient of a Graduate Diploma in Music from the University of Auckland in 2010, Mr. Artley currently teaches at Kings College in Auckland and is the winner of three other international composition contests, including that of the European Choral Association.

The Lutheran Youth Choir award included a $500 prize and performance of the piece at the choir’s 2013 Festival of American Vocal Music in Mansfeld, Germany, as well as in concerts by the choir in Erfurt, Eisenach, and Berlin. Mr. Artley was present for the choir’s Erfurt performance and for the awarding of his prize, and graciously spent the day touring Erfurt with the choir and rehearsing them in his composition.
